Ken Forsythe – Tai Chi Instructor
I started teaching Les Mills BodyCOMBAT (a martial arts based fitness class) at the Pulse and now the Raintree Athletic Club in 2003 at the age of 44 (perhaps a bit late in life). I added a number of the other Les Mills International programs to my teaching repertoire over the years including BodyPUMP, BodySTEP, and CXWORX. I’m currently a certified kickboxing instructor through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.
Most recently, as I’ve gotten a bit older, I’ve shifted my emphasis to “no impact” training in the form of Tai Chi. I became a certified Tai Chi instructor in 2010 and most recently have developed classes at the Raintree Athletic Club based on Zen philosophy and Tai Chi principles. I refer to these classes as “Zen in the Art of Tai Chi.” These classes are based on the training curriculum of the I Liq Chuan (Zen and Tai Chi) system of which I am a formal member and authorized group leader.
So, I still retain the martial arts based fitness theme that I began with in 2003, but I’ve modified my approach these days to accommodate the fitness needs of maturing adults like myself. It’s still a lot of fun and I still have so much to learn and many challenges to work through. Come try a class!
